Zadiyana Village - Roof Rain Water Harvesting

Project Summary:

Zadiyana borders the desert and access to water is a major problem. There is only season rain fall and water tables are falling. As water becomes more and more scarce, communities are beginning to migrate, leaving those left behind with fewer and fewer resources. Roof rainwater harvesting allows villagers to capture the water during the rainy season and channel it into storage tanks for use during the dry season. This project will allow for the storage of 5,000 to 10,000 liters of water. Become the SVC for this project and partner with Zadiyana to provide water that will help improve the health, sanitation, and livelihood of the villagers.

Khadol Village-- Child Care Center

Project Summary:

Khadol is a small village of agricultural laborers and tobacco field workers. With employment in the tobacco fields as the biggest industry in Khadol, the most important issue in the village has been the occupational health hazards prevailing among the poor tobacco agriculture workers and their families as well as the lack of child care facilities for the children of these workers. This has forced many parents to bring their children with them to work in the fields, creating various illnesses for the children.

SEWA has supported a child care co-operative in Khadol since 1994. Currently, the center takes care of 40 children between the ages 0-6 years years old, but is in great need of repair and renovation. The center focuses on the overall development of the children, including their physical and intellectual growth. However, the center lacks funds and needs a partner that will help them provide the children with a healthy, encouraging learning environment, nutritious meals, education field trips, and immunization and primary care. In addition to those direct needs, the center will also help council parents on fostering a healthy learning environment at home. Mulada Village-- Roof Rainwater Harvesting

Project Summary:

Mulada borders the desert and access to water is a major problem of this agricultural village. The communities are dependent upon seasonal rainfall, and villagers are often forced to walk 3-4 kms a day to fetch water for their daily needs. As water becomes more and more scarce, communities are beginning to migrate, leaving those left behind with fewer and fewer resources.

Roof rainwater harvesting allows villagers to capture the water during the rainy season and channel it into storage tanks for use during the dry season. This project will allow for the storage of up to 60,000 liters of water. As a result of these Roof Rain Water Harvesting Tanks, the communities will have access to water at their door steps and they will have more time for livelihood related activities. In addition, access to safe and clean drinking water will improve village sanitation and decrease the risk of disease, and subsequently increase income for the community members who are daily wage earners.
