Meet Dana, Jill and Robin, three 1Well Citizen Philanthropists from New York City. Through 1Well, they partnered with Devki Village to provide the community with access to clean, safe drinking water. “It amazed us to learn the great lengths that the women of Devki must go to in order to provide their village with something as basic as water.”, they said. A small agricultural community in Rajasthan, India, villagers in Devki are facing severe droughts and shorter harvests for farmers. Earlier this summer, Dana, Jill and Robin held a happy hour event and raised $3,149.09 with the support of family and friends. Their project will repair and deepen Devki’s primary well, allowing for water to be stored for the dry season to provide families with safe access to clean, drinking water. More than 20 families will greatly benefit from this reliable water supply and women, who would otherwise be forced to walk hours a day to retrieve water, can use their time on activities that contribute to the family income.
Dana, Jill and Robin’s Well Repair project will not only improve village health, sanitation and increase agricultural production in the community, but the extra funds from their happy hour are being used to fund the construction of a biogas plant in Sonalnagar Village!
