Meet the Spring 2009 Coprodeli Volunteer group! Brought together by an interest in philanthropy, the group, whose 14 members include an artist, an engineer, a doctor and his two children, and a web designer, spent several weeks volunteering in Peru. Read more

One of the places they visited was the Santa María Education Center in Pachacutec, a shantytown of migrant workers outside of Lima, Peru. Focused on addressing the widespread malnutrition and lack of education brought on by the extreme poverty of the region, the Santa María Education Center began operation during the summer of 2008 and currently serves 100 pre-K and primary level students!

Coprodeli expanded the Santa María Education Center in March of this year to include 5 new classrooms as part of the secondary school wing. However, without the necessary equipment, the classrooms cannot fully function. Members of the Coprodeli Spring 2009 Volunteer group have committed themselves to fundraising the $9,350 needed to provide the classrooms with desks, chairs, whiteboards and bookshelves, allowing 175 more students to enroll in grades 7-11! In addition to attending class, students at the Santa María Education Center receive a nutritious meal daily and engage in physical and cultural activities. By purchasing the equipment for the classrooms from Pachacutec businesses, the Coprodeli Spring 2009 Volunteer’s project will stimulate the local economy.

Join the Coprodeli Volunteer Group and partner with Pachacutec to give 175 students the opportunity to attend secondary school and finish their education. You can donate on their project page here.

Become a Citizen Philanthropist! You can partner with members of the Subtanjalla community in Peru to help them build a permanent cafeteria for the Youth Outreach Center (Centro de Atención Externa, CAE). The CAE focuses on psychosocial and medical care, nutrition, education and child development services to earthquake victims in Subtanjalla yet currently operates in a temporary structure without a permanent roof or running water. Your help will fund construction and supplies for a CAE cafeteria and allow 50 children nutritious meals. Learn more on the 1Well Available Projects page.
