PROJECT UPDATE

JULY 2009
Dungra Village's first childcare center is up and running! There are currently 27 students between the ages of 2 and 6 years old who are supervised by a teacher and her assistant. The Dungra Childcare Center runs from 9am-2pm, 6 days a week. Children are fed a snack and one nutritional meal every day, and the center has recently purchased books, tambourines and toys—like a wind-and-pull elephant—for the children to play with.

Dear Friends,

I recently partnered with Dungra Village with the help of 1Well to fund the founding of a childcare center. The Center will support the development and growth of 25 village children and bring 2 full-time teaching jobs to the village.

About Dungra Village
Dungra is a small agricultural village of approximately 150 families nestled in the foothills of Dungarpur district in Rajasthan, India. Dungra currently does not have any childcare facilities, and as a result children are often left behind on their own while their mothers work in the fields. This project will fund a SEWA-supported childcare center that focuses on the overall development of the children.

Project Description & Impact
Founding a childcare center in Dungra is essential for the health, education, and well-being of its children. The center will provide children with a healthy, encouraging learning environment, nutritious meals, educational field trips, and immunization and primary care. The existence of a full-time childcare center will enable mothers to seek regular income and start on the path to financial self-reliance. In addition, the center's faculty and staff will also help counsel parents on how to foster a learning environment at home.
